Our Statement on SB480

The Center for Nonviolence is deeply disheartened by the decision to lift the injunction on Senate Bill 480 (SB480), legislation that restricts medical providers in Indiana from offering crucial gender-affirming healthcare to residents under the age of 18. This ruling is a devastating setback.

SB480 places healthcare professionals in an impossible position, forcing them to act against their fundamental oath to "do no harm."  This jeopardizes the health and well-being of transgender youth, denying them access to life-saving, identity-affirming care.

We echo the sentiments expressed by the ACLU of Indiana, emphasizing that the fight is far from over. Our weekly support groups for middle and high school-aged LGBTQ+ youth, along with their allies, will continue. As will our monthly LGBTQ+ Parent support group and our weekly Adult LGTBQ+ Domestic Violence support group.

We stand in solidarity with our queer neighbors, staff, and volunteers, urging everyone to actively engage in civic participation by contacting your representatives and voting! Together, we can dismantle systemic barriers, eradicate discrimination, and foster an environment where everyone can thrive without fear of losing their lives let alone their healthcare.
