Batterer Intervention Program
Groups are offered in English and Spanish
The Men’s program provides 29 sessions of information and dialogue for men who acknowledge they have used violence. To complete the program, each participant must attend 26 groups and three individual conferences with staff. He must reflect upon past incidents in which he used violence and abuse tactics, and complete a number of written “logs” to deepen his understanding of his motivations, beliefs, and the effects of his abuse. Each man must engage in at least one role play of his violent behavior, in which he faces up to the experience of the victim, and then demonstrates, in role play, practical alternative ways of handling the problem without using abuse. On his last day, he reads to the group a “closure” letter which he has composed, followed by a group evaluation of the quality of his work. Fees are based on a sliding scale.
