Our Services Offered in Spanish

As Hispanic Heritage Month approaches, we at the Center for Nonviolence are excited to celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of our local Latinx communities. This month, from September 15th to October 15th, is a time to honor the contributions and heritage of Latinx individuals. To mark this special occasion, we want to highlight the array of services we offer in Spanish to support and empower members of the Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana Latinx communities. Our commitment to offering culturally affirming programs reflects our dedication to the well-being and empowerment of Latinx survivors of domestic and other forms of violence.

Intervention

We recognize the significance of tackling the underlying reasons behind violence within relationships. Our intervention programs create a secure and nurturing space to delve into behaviors related to violence, question cultural beliefs that might be linked to violence, and acquire vital relationship-building skills like honesty, accountability, and power-sharing.

Offering these educational sessions in Spanish ensures that Latinx individuals involved can engage with this information more comprehensively, without the hindrance of translation barriers.

Support and Advocacy

Our Mujeres Unidas support group, which means "Women United" in Spanish, is a powerful community of Latinx survivors who come together to share their experiences, find strength in unity, and support one another on their healing journeys. Facilitated entirely in Spanish by Latina facilitators, this group is led by advocates who are deeply rooted in Latinx cultures. This ensures that survivors receive culturally sensitive and relevant support, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

We also provide one-on-one advocacy services for all survivors of domestic and other forms of violence. Our advocates work closely with survivors to understand their specific needs and provide assistance in a client-centered manner. These services are also available in Spanish, ensuring that language is never a barrier to accessing support and assistance.

Youth Support

We understand that the impact of violence within a family extends to children as well. To address this, we offer youth support programs specifically designed for the children of the women attending our weekly Mujeres Unidas support group.

This program provides a safe space for children to express their feelings, learn coping strategies, and build resilience. By supporting the children, we contribute to the healing and well-being of the entire family unit.

As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, we want to reaffirm our commitment to providing culturally affirming services to the Latinx community. These programs provided in the Spanish language are created by Latinx people for people of Latinx descent. We are proud to offer these services in Spanish.
