Privacy Policy

The Center for Nonviolence (“The Center” or “CfN” or “We” or “Us”) has a strong commitment to providing excellent service to all of our clients (“Users”), including respecting their concerns about privacy. We understand that visitors to our website may have questions about whether and how this website collects and uses information, and are committed to protecting your privacy. In support of this, we only use the personally identifiable information (“personal information” or “personal data”) that you provide in accordance with the terms outlined below.

This Privacy Policy covers any personal information we obtain when you visit us, use our services, or access the features on the websites that CfN owns or controls (today or in the future). You can access the site in many ways, including from a computer or mobile phone, and this Privacy Policy will apply regardless of the means of access. This Privacy Policy also governs the use of personal information we obtain from you from any third-party site or application where we post content or invite your feedback or participation, including (“Third Party Sites”). The Center cannot control the privacy policies or practices of Third Party Sites or of companies CfN does not own or control, and cannot control the actions of people CfN does not employ or manage. You should always check the privacy policies of Third Party Sites and your privacy settings.

Please note that we only knowingly collect and process information from individuals who reside in the United States. The Center for Nonviolence is a nonprofit social service agency in North America and does not market to businesses or individuals in the EU or EEA. Any processing of information of an individual not present in the United States is incidental and unintentional. 

Personal Information we collect

The site collects information in automatic and user-driven ways. The site will automatically collect the following information during each of your visits:

  • Technical information, including the Internet protocol (IP) address used to connect your computer or device to the Internet, image URLs, HTML structure, CSS attributes, browser type and version, time zone setting, browser plug-in types and versions, operating system and platform;

  • Demographic Information, including demographic information (such as gender, age, language, race, etc.) inherently gathered by google analytics and other platforms linked to our website.

  • Information about your visit, including pages you viewed or searched for, page response times, download errors, length of visits to certain pages, page interaction information (such as scrolling, clicks, and mouse-overs), methods used to browse away from the page, and any phone number used to call our customer service number; and

  • Location information 

If users voluntarily decide to engage and enter their personal information on our site; users may be asked for and we may collect the following information: 

  • Personal information, including name, contact information [i.e. email address, phone number, mailing address, etc], social media log-ins, and other personally-identifying information

  • Volunteer information, including areas of interest, background information, availability, etc

  • Employment information, including educational history, employment history, resume, cover letter, etc

  • Donor information, financial account information, contact information, etc

How we collect your personal information

We may collect personal information from users in a variety of ways, including when users:

  • Visit our site

  • Submit an employment pre-screening form

  • Subscribe to our newsletter

  • Link to our social media sites

  • Respond to a survey

  • Fill out a form in connection with other activities, services, or resources we make available on our site.

Web Browser Cookies

We collect information about how you use our site by setting and accessing cookies on your computer. A cookie is a small piece of information sent by our site that is saved on your hard drive by your computer’s browser. The cookie holds information our site may need to personalize or enhance your experience and to gather statistical data, such as which pages are visited, the internet provider’s domain name and the addresses of the sites visited immediately before coming to and immediately after leaving the site. The information in the cookie lets CfN trace “clickstream” activity (i.e., the paths taken by visitors to our site as they move from page to page) to enable us to better serve our customers by revealing which portions of our site are the most popular. Uses of Persistent Identifiers

CfN or third parties may use identifiers to generate certain kinds of site usage data, such as the number of hits and visits to our site. This information is used to understand how visitors use our site and provide better services to you. 

The Center may transfer or allow third parties to collect, analytic information about your visit to CfN websites to help us improve our websites and better serve you when you visit us online in the future. Analytic information may include such identifiers as your browser type, IP address, referring site URL, web pages you view, and links you click on while navigating within our Sites.

We use this information for a number of purposes, such as to provide easier site navigation, access to forms, or to track analytics and certain statistical information that enables us to improve our site and provide you with more relevant content and information on our site and other Sites.

We may also use third-party analytics, or allow third-party companies to automatically collect certain non-personal information from you when you interact with our site or social media. This may include clickstream information, browser type, time and date, subject of advertisements clicked or scrolled over. These third-party tools or companies may use technology such as cookies, web beacons, pixel tags, or log files to collect such information.

How we use your personal information

The Center will only process your personal information, including sharing it with third parties, in an effort to:

  • personalize the user experience

  • answer questions that users have posed to us on our Contact page

  • send users information they agreed to receive about topics we think will be of interest to them

  • administer our site and for internal operations, including troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, research, statistical and survey purposes;

  • improve our site to ensure that content is presented most effectively for you and your computer or device;

  • ensure our site is safe and secure

  • make suggestions and recommendations to you and other users of our site about content or services that may interest you or them.

If a user decides to opt-in to our mailing list, they will receive emails that may include agency news, updates, related product or service information, etc. If at any time the user would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email or user may contact us via our site.

We may also use information in the aggregate to understand how our users as a group use the services and resources provided on our Site. 

How we share your personal information

The Center for Nonviolence will not sell any personal information to third-party entities. However, we may share your personal information for the purposes described below:

  • CfN staff with a need to know such information; CfN staff are required to sign confidentiality agreements in regards to individual’s personal information

  • to help us operate our agency and provide users with information, such as sending out newsletters or surveys for those limited purposes that you have given us permission for  

  • a member of our staff team, including service providers who may be able to answer questions users may have

  • analytics and search engine providers that assist us in the improvement and optimization of our Site

  • in an emergency where the health or security of an employee is deemed to be potentially endangered

Correction and removal

Opting Out

How we protect your personal information

We adopt reasonable technical, administrative, and physical safeguards to protect personal data. These include appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices, and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, username, password, transaction information and data stored on our Sites.

Sensitive and private data exchange between the site and its users is encrypted and protected with digital signatures. 

Children

This site is not directed to children under the age of 13 and CfN does not intentionally collect any information from or about children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us at info@centerfornv.org.

EU Resident Rights and Notice

If you are located in the EU or Switzerland, we rely on several legal bases to process your Personal Information. These legal bases include where:

  • The processing is necessary to provide you with our services information

  • You have given your prior consent, which you may withdraw at any time 

  • The processing is necessary for the purposes of our legitimate interests, such as in improving, personalizing, and developing our services, marketing new services that may be of interest, and promoting safety and security as described above.

  • Right to restriction. The right to obtain the restriction of the processing undertaken by us on your personal data in certain circumstances, such as where the accuracy of the personal data is contested by you, for a period enabling us to verify the accuracy of that personal data.

  • Right to object. You have a right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and direct marketing.

California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have the right to request information from us regarding the manner in which CfN shares certain categories of personal information with third parties for their direct marketing purposes, in addition to the rights set forth above. Under California law, you have the right to send us a request at the designated address listed below to receive the following information:

  • The categories of information we disclosed to third parties for their direct marketing purposes during the preceding calendar year

  •  The names and addresses of the third parties that received the information

  • If the nature of the third party’s business cannot be determined from their name, examples of the products or services marketed.

Donor Privacy

Center for Nonviolence, Inc (CfN) is committed to respecting the privacy of all our donors.

Information concerning donors or prospective donors, including their names,  the names of their beneficiaries, the amount of their gift, etc., shall be shared in our donor reports and our annual report by CfN unless donors explicitly request otherwise. However, their contact information will be kept confidential and only staff that need to know for the purposes of conducting their work will be privy to that information.

CfN assures donors that their names and addresses will not be shared with any third party unless permission has been granted.

CfN assures its solicitations are free from undue influence or excessive pressure and are respectful of the needs and interests of donors or potential donors.

CfN honors all requests from donors who wish to curtail or be removed from any mailings and/or solicitations. A donor should contact give@centerfornv.org to have their name removed.

CfN honors when a donor’s request is to remain anonymous and assure that their name, the amount of their gift, or other information will not be publicly released.

Updates

If the Center for Nonviolence changes this policy in the future, we will post the changes here and indicate the date of the changes at the top of the policy.
