Frequently Asked Questions

Who We Are

  • Our mission is to provide education, support, & advocacy to end domestic and other forms of violence while modeling equality and power-sharing.

Our vision is to create homes, communities, and a world free from violence and oppression.

We offer a safe and welcoming space where members of Fort Wayne’s most marginalized, under-resourced communities can receive high-quality, trauma-informed, client-centered care.

Learn more about our history and current staff by visiting our About Us page.

  • Yes, we are a registered nonprofit organization.

  • Our work is guided by the following “Principles of Practice:”

    Safety

    Accountability

    Collaboration

    Power-sharing

  • In a collective, power-sharing, consensus-building, and deep democratization are foundational values. Never has a single person acted as the executive director, rather the Coordinating Panel serves as the Board of Directors, and the Staff Administration Team (SAT) comprised of 4-8 full-time staff members, serves as the Executive Directorship.

This is an egalitarian process, in which decisions are made by “consensus” rather than majority vote. This helps minimize hierarchy in our organization. We ensure that our work is led and informed by women, historically marginalized communities, and survivors of violence.

Our Programming

  • We follow the “Duluth Model” which is an ever-evolving way of thinking about how a community works together to end domestic violence. When working with those who have used violence, survivor safety is our first priority.

Our team of Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence (ICADV) certified facilitators are supervised by senior staff members and monitored regularly by victim advocates.
